Frequently asked questions

Who is the weekend away for?
The Weekend Away is a weekend when the City on a Hill Melbourne church spends time together at Belgrave Heights Convention Centre worshiping, praying, teaching, and building community. As always with events at our church, you are welcome to invite your friends along.
I’m keen to come, but the cost is a challenge… is financial assistance available?

Yes, we want you to be there. Contact us and we are keen to help find a way for you to attend.

What is the nature of onsite accomodation?

Belgrave Heights Convention Centre offers a variety of indoor accommodation options, including cabins, motel-style rooms, and lodges, to suit different needs and they come in a variety of bed configurations. Families and married couples will be roomed together.

Additionally, there are 150 powered camping sites available for tents and caravans with shared toilet and shower blocks as well as laundry facilities.

Can I find my own accommodation?
Yes, you are also welcome to find your own accommodation offsite and join us for sessions and meals. When registering, make sure you select the “Offsite” ticket.
Do we need to bring our own linen?

For the indoor accommodation styles you will need to bring your own linen; with the exception for those staying in the “Lodge”, where linen and towels are provided.

Closer to the date once rooms have been assigned, more details and specifics of linen and bedding will be provided.

What meals are provided?

Meals included are:

  • Friday supper
  • Saturday breakfast, morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, and supper
  • Sunday breakfast, morning tea, and lunch
Will church services still happen on the Sunday?

As the intention is that all of the City on a Hill Melbourne church will be gathering at Belgrave, there will not be any services that Sunday at Hoyts.

Anyone not coming to the full Weekend Away will be welcome to join in the Sunday morning session at Belgrave, but you will need to register for that single session (further details to come).

Can I request to share a room with particular people?

Yes, that will be possible. Families and married couples will automatically be assigned to the same room. For everyone else, when registering for the Weekend Away and if you select, “Adult (Onsite Accommodation)”, there will be a question asking if you would like to specify particular people to share a room with.

We will endeavour to honour these requests, however we cannot guarantee that we can meet every request. Also please note that all parties will need to specify the other person/s.

Is there a City Kids program?

Yes, there will be a City Kids program for the day-time main sessions. Outside of those formal City Kids program sessions, children will be in the care of their parents.

This program will be suitable for children in kindergarten and primary.

Will the weekend be family friendly for those with small children?

The Weekend Away is designed to be friendly to people of all ages as the Belgrave Convention Centre has plenty of experience hosting large scale events.

For families with babies and toddlers, the Hope Centre dining room has several highchairs. There is a change table in the accessible bathroom in the Auditorium foyer but not all bathrooms. The dining room has a microwave and there are fridges in the main meeting spaces in the Hope centre as well as in the Hope Centre dining room where parents can store things. There is boiling water in these spaces also.

Off the foyer of the Auditorium there is a ‘cry room’ located behind the café. It has glass windows into the Auditorium and can have the audio played into there.

Rooms do not contain cots, and therefore if these are needed, you will need to bring a travel cot or equivalent with you.

Will there a City Youth program?

Yes, the Weekend Away will have dedicated breakouts for youth aged 12-17. We encourage youth to attend the main sessions with their friends and family.

Will the weekend be family friendly for those with small children?

The Weekend Away is designed to be friendly to people of all ages as the Belgrave Convention Centre has plenty of experience hosting large scale events.

For families with babies and toddlers, we will confirm what equipment you will need to provide and what is provided onsite; and what parent room facilities will be available (like a cry room, etc) to enable parents to engage in the sessions outside of the auditorium.

How do I get there?

Belgrave Heights Convention Centre is located at 3 Convention Ave, Belgrave Heights. From the CBD, it would normally take about an hour to drive there.

There is also a train station in Belgrave that connects with public buses which can take people close to the convention centre.

For those who need a lift, we have used Caroster to create a carpool system for matching people who have spare seats in their cars. Both drivers offering a lift, and people wanting a lift, can register themselves here: Caroster Car Pool – Weekend Away.

Can I come for just part of the weekend?

We encourage everyone to attend the whole weekend away and therefore partial tickets will not be available.

We also understand that some people can only attend Sunday. In this case, closer to the date there will be a Sunday-only session option to register for (further details to come).

What should I bring?

Everyone is encouraged to bring clothing for a cold climate, toiletries, bible, notebook, chargers, and personal medication where required. For community time you are welcome to bring board games, puzzles, snacks, etc.

Some accommodation may provide linen and towels while other types will require you to bring your own. More details will be provided once the accommodation assignments have been finalised.

For those who are camping, you’ll need to provide everything, including your own tent, camping equipment, etc.

Are there opportunities to serve on the weekend away?

Yes, there will be many opportunities for you to serve others on the Weekend Away! These will include helping out with production, activities, logistics, hosting, and the kids program.
