Many Rooms

Through the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus showed us that our neighbour included those who had experienced injustice (Luke 10:25–37). In other accounts, Jesus also helped those who were sick or disabled, as well as those who were burdened by sin, or were just rejected by wider society (see Luke 18:35–43; 5:17–20; 19:1–10).

To live out our calling to follow and serve Jesus, we are called to serve the poor, the outcast, the sick, the lonely and the imprisoned (Matthew 25:35–36).

We recognise that serving those in need is something the church community is commanded to do (Deuteronomy 14:28–29), but it is also something we are compelled to do with open hearts when we understand God’s grace through Christ (2 Corinthians 8).

Despite its wealth, Melbourne has its share of poverty, addictions, loneliness and hopelessness. While the government and welfare agencies attempt to address these issues, they are unable to provide all of the answers.

Caring For

Melbourne's Homeless

A ministry of City on a Hill seeking to reach out to the marginalized in the City of Melbourne.

Serve

There remains a desperate need for so much more to be done; therefore City on a Hill is committed to take action by performing acts of mercy, standing against social injustice and making a positive impact on the lives of the disadvantaged and needy.

As servants of Christ, we seek to identify areas of social need (e.g. homelessness, drug addiction, abuse) in our city and respond with compassion and gospel action. Fuelled by the Spirit and following the example of Christ, we seek to love our neighbours sacrificially and holistically (that is, providing relational, social, spiritual, mental, emotional and physical care).

The practical expression of our theology is demonstrated in our individual walk, as well as our priorities as a corporate body. One such priority is Many Rooms. This ministry is lead by City on a Hill and seeks to reach out to the marginalised in the city of Melbourne. The vision statement of Many Rooms is this: ‘as God has loved us in Jesus, so we aim to love and care for the homeless of Melbourne’.
