City on a Hill would not exist without the many faithful volunteers who love Jesus, love the church, and are actively on mission with us to Know Jesus and Make Jesus Known. Today we continue our On Mission blog series by meeting another one of our awesome volunteers who gives generously of their time and talent by serving in various ministries and teams throughout the church.
Today we meet Paul.
What do you do? (Outside of serving at COAH)
What takes up most of my time is being a carpenter, building all sorts of things but mostly houses. What I get up to in my free time is spending good quality time with my girl and soon to be wife. We like to go on dates to coffee shops, share our experiences of what life was like growing up, chill out and watch movies, and enjoy having a good devotion and a D&M. Whenever I get a chance, I try to get out doors and go four-wheel driving, camping, fishing, skating, surfing and all the fun stuff. However, this is not my 'real' life as my life belongs to the Lord who gave me a 'real' life. So I try and give more of my time to do what He wants me to be doing.
You serve as part of the Production Logistics team that helps setup and pack down all the sound and lighting equipment for our Sunday services. Why is your team critical to the mission of City on a Hill?
The first thing that comes to my mind when asked 'why is your team so critical to the mission of City on a Hill' is that everyone can understand that the body of Christ is one body and has many parts, there is not one part more important than another.
What does it look like to serve on your team?
I'm involved with setting up for our weekly Sunday services. Serving can look very different each week with set up and pack down as this team seeks to free up other people that have more than one role or a high-stress role where there is a lot depending on them. For example, sound technicians shouldn't have to worry whether a drummer is going to be set up on time for sound check or if all the singers have their microphones and stands. Or interns and pastors should be free and able to go out before or after a service to be involved with the church community and have conversations.
What do you enjoy most about serving on your team?
Helping out in Gods kingdom and serving our lord is where my enjoyment comes from. The Lord loves His church and I want to be part of it and what God is doing here in Melbourne.
Their are many opportunities to serve at City on a Hill, and each of these opportunities exist because they are a crucial part of our mission to Know Jesus and Make Jesus Known. If you are not currently serving at City on a Hill, or you know someone who isn’t, now is the time to sign up to serve and be part of the mission. If you’ve got an interest or skills for this team then join Paul on mission by serving as part of the Productions Logistics team!
