City on a Hill would not exist without the many faithful volunteers who love Jesus, love the church, and are actively on mission with us to Know Jesus and Make Jesus Known. Today we continue our On Mission blog series by meeting one of our awesome volunteers who gives generously of their time and talent by serving in various ministries and teams throughout the church.
Today we meet Milene.
What do you do? (Outside of serving at COAH)
I work in a media agency as a media executive. I plan advertising campaigns and advise appropriate media outlets to clients to buy into for their various marketing campaigns. I have been working with this company for 1 year and enjoy the challenges it brings such as learning to deal with client expectations and coordinating between internal and external stakeholders.
You serve as part of the Social Media team in Melbroune that manages and moderates all content on the Melbourne social media profiles. Why is your team critical to the mission of City on a Hill?
It is important for raising awareness of the church profile, and provides a source of information regarding church services and activities within the church to members and non-members. Considering a majority of the demographic of our church members are active on social media, it is crucial for the church to have a presence online so that both parties stay connected. To non-members, it is an easy and more personal way to access information about the church and get a feel of what City on a Hill is like through photos, posts, style of language, demographic etc. before deciding if they would like to be part of this community.
What does it look like to serve on your team?
Although there are minimum hours of commitment with this role, you are mostly able to serve at your own time and target. For example, as I work full-time, I have time-constraints and I schedule posts for the week in advance so that I can get them done the weekend prior.
What do you enjoy most about serving on your team?
To have first hand information and to be kept in tuned with church-related activities. If things don't work out a certain way, there is always an open communication line for discussion to change the way things are done. In this team, you can to truly take ownership of your portfolio.
What opportunities currently exist to serve on your team?
Someone who has social media marketing experience will be very useful to help achieve the goals we have for the social media platform of the church. We are trying to make this platform more vibrant and interactive with members and non-members so that they are more engaged with the community and the sermons each week.
