City on a Hill would not exist without the many faithful volunteers who love Jesus, love the church, and are actively on mission with us to Know Jesus and Make Jesus Known. Today we continue our On Mission blog series by meeting one of our awesome volunteers who gives generously of their time and talent by serving in various ministries and teams throughout the church.
Today we meet Debbie.
What do you do? (Outside of serving at COAH)
As far as work goes I'm a branding and packaging designer with my alias profession being a baker. Outside of work I still love to get involved in a variety of creative things but also love just getting outdoors, going for a run, and thanks to my mum I have a heart for hospitality/entertaining, which also includes a love for cooking and baking.
You serve as part of the Welcome team that greets people, helps provide information, and ushers people in the cinemas for our Sunday services. Why is your team critical to the mission of City on a Hill?
We are the first impression for the majority of first timers to Church. Those first 5-7 minutes of someone coming for the first time is crucial, without sounding to dramatic of course. It’s our job and privilege to be a warm smile and a welcoming hello while also being there to answer a range of questions, help people to get connected and involved. And for our church family we are a friendly face genuinely wanting to connect, support, and make them feel at home and part of our growing family.
What does it look like to serve on your team?
We’re a pretty easygoing bunch of people who are willing to help out wherever needed. Obviously our main role on welcome, is to greet people, engage in conversation, connect people whether it’s in a Community Group, up coming event or getting involved in serving. We do have to tell people at times to move down the row but this is only so that others can find a seat too. Lastly we need to be ready to answer a range of questions that people ask.
What do you enjoy most about serving on your team?
Other than getting to serve along side a great bunch of people. I love that I can use other gifts and abilities to serve my church family and the Lord in a simple yet practical way.
What opportunities currently exist to serve on your team?
There is always a need on welcome, whether it’s during one of the morning services or during the evening service. If you’re a people person, love a good chat, and want to help connect others then we need you!
Their are many opportunities to serve at City on a Hill, and each of these opportunities exist because they are a crucial part of our mission to Know Jesus and Make Jesus Known. If you are not currently serving at City on a Hill, or you know someone who isn’t, now is the time to sign up to serve and be part of the mission. If you’ve got an interest or skills for this team then join Debbie on mission by serving as part of the Welcome team!
