This is an exciting time to be part of God's movement. Jesus is transforming lives and His love is shining bright!
On Sunday October 27 we will gather as one church in the heart of the city for one special service at the Melbourne Town Hall — "His Story Our Story".
We would love you, your friends and family to join us for what is going to be a historic and memorable morning. Together we'll proclaim the gospel, hear stories of lives changed by Jesus, dedicate our little ones, celebrate new life in baptism, pray, sing and give thanks for another year of God's grace.
We'll also be making some exciting announcements about the future of City on a Hill.
This time last year we released our three-year vision document 'City Steps', which maps the prayerful direction for our mission and movement. At our celebration service we'll spotlight our progress and reveal some inspiring plans for the road ahead. Significantly, this will include the commissioning of our first church plant in Geelong, the sending of our first independent plant, and a very special announcement regarding the next City on a Hill plant.
In support of our vision forward and in harmony with our birthday service, we are launching a giving campaign called "Generous".
God has been abundantly generous with us! We want to live and mirror that same generosity with each other, our city and indeed this world.
Our goal in the 2013/14 budget (commencing October 1) is to raise $1,546,189 to help bring the goals and vision of City on a Hill to life. This is made up with projected giving (Melbourne and Geelong) of $1,440,400 and a further $105,789 to be raised through external grants and funding. This is a projected increase to our giving of 31% on our preceding budget.
Whilst the numbers get ever larger, I, the Executive, and the Wardens of City on a Hill, believe this increase is achievable for our community. It is at the lower end of the increases in income we've experienced over our life time. It reflects the expected increase in our community size that we have experienced every year we've been around. And finally, it seeks to meet the expanding needs of the 2nd year of our bold City Steps plan which City on a Hill's members have enthusiastically embraced with their time, prayers, and funds to the glory of God.
As we did with the launch of City Steps, we want to again invite you to dig deep for this mission. Given the way God has moved powerfully this year amongst and through us, we have realised that we need to re-commit ourselves every year to His plans and purposes. Last year we had an exciting response and this year we are praying for an equal measure of generosity and commitment.
To realise this goal we invite you to prayerfully consider the following two important steps:
1. Make a once-off financial gift/donation that coincides with our anniversary service
We're inviting everyone to make a once-off contribution to City on a Hill, which will be directed to a newly developed church planting fund. This money will help 'seed' our new plants and cultivate future church planting opportunities.
Every dollar makes a difference!
2. Make a financial pledge to support the vision of City on a Hill in 2013/14
In addition to a once-off contribution we need your long-term support to realise this important goal!
We'd love you to prayerfully consider what your financial contribution will be for the next twelve months and importantly, let us know! This is not only a vital part of our own personal devotion and worship, but allows the leadership team to plan, build and grow accordingly.
To achieve our target goal of $1.4 million we each (in our own way!) need to be generous.
To give you a picture of how we can reach this target, here's one concrete scenario:
5 x $20,000 (~ $380 pw)
25 x $8,000 (~ $150 pw)
100 x $4,000 (~ $80 pw)
350 x $2,000 (~ $40 pw)
Total of 480 givers* = $1.4 million.
I want you to know that our pastors (including myself, Andrew, Simon, Luke, Nick and Neil) are excited by the vision that Jesus has for our city and we are "all-in!" And to give you a guide as to how we've responded — we've prayed, we've looked at our budget, and collectively – as 6 families – we've committed to making a one-off gift of $6,900 to coincide with our celebration service. In addition, we are pledging to support the work of City on a Hill over the next twelve months with a further $43,960. As a combined effort, that is $50,860 to support the mission and vision.
I want to invite you to also be "all in!" To prayerfully consider what you could give to support the mission and vision for the next twelve months.
You can indicate your support by filling in a pledge card at one of our Sunday services.
You can of course do that anonymously. We want everyone to participate.
We will be providing updates on our "Generous" campaign, quarterly highlighting our progress, but also how your giving is making a difference in the lives of many.
If you have any questions please feel free to call or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
A million thanks for your generosity, support and partnership in the gospel.
